Star Perfomer Award Recipient

What an honor it was to be the recipient of the Hopkins Star Performer Award in the spring of 2008. I was overwhelmed at the time and can still feel the emotion of that day when I think about the assembly, the video, and the good wishes that accompanied this award. What a wonderful way for Mr. and Mrs. Hopkins to recognize those who teach and work with children and to highlight the importance of education and educators. Bud and Irene Hopkins were dear friends to many and long time respected members of the Emporia community. They are missed and remembered often as mentors and role models for the importance of caring about, investing in and giving back to one’s community. Many thanks to the Hopkins Foundation for continuing the work that was so important to this generous couple. Those of us who have received the Hopkins Award named in their honor will never forget it. . . or them!
